Please read the following information sheet in order to learn about the refilling process and whether you are eligible for a refill or not. Feel free to call or e-mail us if you have any questions or concerns.
- Cartridges with integrated printheads (refer to photo –>) can usually only be filled 3-5 times before degrading, giving poor prints, and not holding the full amount of ink. Avoid touching and damaging the print-heads and the electronic strip, and keep dirt and debris away from cartridges. If these cartridges have not provided a GOOD print in the last 4 or 5 months, then they are most likely dried up and won’t work properly even if they are cleaned and refilled. We recommend printing at least every month to prevent this from happening. You may also be able to run a “Print-Head Cleaning” in order to flush out dried ink and unclog your print-heads. Please be honest and don’t drop off old cartridges that have sat unused for more than 5 months, or that have been filled more than 5 times.
- Cartridges without integrated print heads (refer to photo –>) can usually be refilled indefinitely, and don’t tend to dry up like those with integrated print-heads. However, it is still recommended that you print every month, because the print-heads, which are built into the printer, can still dry out and become clogged, potentially causing you to have to buy a whole new printer (if print-head cleanings don’t fix the problem). When storing these cartridges for long periods of time, be sure to tightly tape over the ink port in order to keep the sponge from drying out, and/or store in a sealed plastic bag. These cartridges are ideal for our swap program and include all Brother cartridges, select Epson cartridges, HP 920 & 564, Canon 8, 220/221, 225/226, and 250/251, among others.
- Please refer to the Refill Prices page for all cartridges that can be filled and their corresponding price.
Additional Information:
– In some cases it is less expensive to buy a whole new printer than purchasing brand new OEM cartridges. However, cartridges that come with new printers are generally only half full. So instead of creating more waste, please consider refilling your cartridges with us for half the price of new cartridges.
– Most printers will not allow you to print unless all the cartridges are installed and have some ink in them. Some printers (mostly HP) will allow you to print if only one cartridge is installed. If only the colour cartridge is installed then you may still be able to print black as explained below, however, black cartridges can only print black/grey.
– Some people might wonder why their colour cartridges run out of ink even when they never print in colour. This is because most printers will actually mix all the colours together to create black, and supplement the black ink cartridge. This is most likely to help keep print-heads from drying up when not being used.
